What's the Difference Between 304 Stainless Steel and 316 Stainless Steel?

What's the Difference Between 304 Stainless Steel and 316 Stainless Steel?

  • 2021-08-19

304 / 316 stainless steel bearings all have below features:

1. Excellent corrosion resistance: stainless steel bearings are not easy to rust and have strong corrosion resistance.

2. Washable: stainless steel bearings can be washed down without re lubricating oil to prevent rust.

3. Can run in liquid: due to the materials used, we can run bearings and bearing seats in liquid.

4. Slow drying rate: AISI 316 stainless steel, no oil or grease anti-corrosion protection is required. Therefore, if the speed and load are low, lubrication is not required.

5. Hygiene: stainless steel is natural and clean without corrosion.

6. High heat resistance: stainless steel bearings equipped with high-temperature polymer cages or cages without a complete complementary structure can operate in a higher temperature range of 180 ° f to 1000 ° F( (high temperature resistant grease required)

Genernally speaking ,there is no difference between the two; the different is the chemical composition, such as 304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel while 316 contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum.

The molybdenum is added to help resist corrosion to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts).

So is you are bearings working at sea water ,you can choose stainless steel 316 material bearings.\

MKL BEARINGS also can produce custom stainless steel bearings according to your requirements .
